Rethinking WIL for an academic discipline: the model of Work Integrated Political Studies (WIPS)

The article develops a model for how an academic discipline like Political Studies can embrace work-integrated learning (WIL) to the benefit of students, discipline, and wider society by interpreting WIL in relation discipline-specific forms knowledge knower. is new Master’s (WIPS) at University West, Sweden, institution that experimenting with idea as beyond mainstream framing pedagogy only. In this innovative context, three ideas are central WIPS. First, content WIPS about research knowledge, rather than knowledge. Second, drawing on political philosophy, important relationship between theory or science (episteme) practice (techne) framed terms additional concept practical (phronesis) regarding particulars action equitable ends wisdom (sophia) regard philosophical ethical nature those ends. Third, re-thinks student ontological ways focus capabilities sum, frames “reflective research-intensive work”, offering novel enriched theoretical higher education interest other disciplines looking WIL.
